And I mean, that could be very profitable as players perhaps cannot resist the siren’s song of gem drops and dump a lot of money into the game. Right now, Blizzard seems content to ride out the storm. Diablo Immortal is doing them no favors in the PR department, and the same goes for their silence/defenses of the issues brought up post-launch. And this is Blizzard’s first new game since 2016’s Overwatch, where over that time, their reputation has been badly damaged, first by slowed support for pretty much all their titles, then for the mistreatment of their female employees which resulted in mass departures and some horrific revelations. I know I now have some pretty serious concerns about Diablo 4 and how that might choose to monetize itself, even if it doesn’t go fully down the Immortal path. ![]() But you do have to wonder that even if Blizzard is raking in microtransaction cash, what it’s costing them in the long term.
